Learning the formula:  ”You get sent on a press conference, you know you have to get certain types of pictures.

This week focused on knowing and understanding the news formulas for photojournalists. 

A publication usually chooses just one shot.  To learn the checklist of photos every photojournalist returns with, check out the AP Image feed.  

John Smock’s Checklist:  

• head shots
• reaction shots
• action shots
• wider shots.  
• Most importantly, make sure that you’ve got angles to illustrate whatever angle the agency wants to portray.  Plus, always be sure to make horizontals and verticals.
