CUNY's Orcutt and Watts Named Top Student Journalists
Collin Orcutt and Kristen Joy Watts, current students at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, have been named to the UWIRE100 list of the top collegiate journalists in the country.
They were chosen from more than 825 nominees from approximately 135 schools. UWIRE is a network of student multimedia reporters that distributes their content to campus and national media outlets.
“This is a remarkable group of journalists,” said Joe Weasel, CEO of UWIRE. “Each has made a significant impact on the field already – they are talented, hard workers, and gifted storytellers. Each was nominated by their peers and advisers, who recognized their potential to shape the ever-changing media industry in the coming years.”
Both Orcutt and Watts will be graduating from the CUNY J-School with a Master of Arts in Journalism in December 2009. Orcutt founded and edits the School’s sports blog, Box Score Beat, and has produced web videos for SportsIllustrated.com.
Watts is the founder and driving force behind the J-School’s ISnapNY photo blog and she is participating in the School’s hyperlocal news project in Fort Greene, Brooklyn in partnership with The New York Times.
