Report and write news and features, turn press releases into briefs, and experiment with video, narrated slide shows, and audio content on-line, for two not-for-profit newspapers covering the South Bronx neighborhoods of Hunts Point and Longwood and Mott Haven, Melrose and Port Morris.

Residents and community organizations have praised the papers for their hard-hitting stories on environmental justice issues, schools, housing, health and crime, and their vivid feature stories about daily life in poor and underserved sections of our city. Copies of the papers are in the j-school library; The Express is on line at www.huntspointexpress.com; the Herald website is at www.motthavenherald.com.

The papers have close ties to the Journalism School: Prof. Bernard Stein is their founder and editor; Joe Hirsch, a member of the school’s first graduating class is its community editor.
