Our Town, West Side Spirit, Chelsea-Clinton News, New York Press and the Westsider are looking for strong writers who are NYC news-savvy and want hands-on journalism experience. Interns preferably should have some background writing for a newspaper. Ideal candidates are outgoing, smart and happy to pitch in as necessary.

The position is unpaid but academic credit is an option. Interns write stories, develop the weekly cultural calendar, conduct research and participate in the editorial department of a weekly newspaper. There is tangible experience in developing stories on deadline, covering communities at the grassroots level and receiving bylines.

The application deadline is rolling.

We are also looking for journalism students who are interested in freelancing news stories tied to the Upper East and West Sides and Chelsea. Payment is by the word. Any pitches with a local slant are welcome.
