A delegation from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism is in Aspen, CO this week to lead a discussion on sustainable models for gathering and disseminating news.

The J-School group, which includes Dean Stephen B. Shepard, Associate Dean Judith Watson, and Associate Professor Jeff Jarvis, head of the interactive media program, is taking a lead role in the Aspen Institute’s annual Forum on Communications and Society (FOCAS). This year’s theme is Of the Press: Models for Preserving American Journalism.

A key part of the program is Jarvis’s report on CUNY’s ongoing New Business Models for News Project. You can hear his address and follow other conference sessions on the New Business Models for News web site, newsinnovation.com.

According to the Aspen Institute, “the purpose of the Forum is to develop a set of recommendations for leaders in media, government, foundations, community groups, and other societal institutions to sustain the journalistic functions of the press essential to democratic governance through new models, practices and solutions, and to identify new areas of research in the field.”
