Former Crain’s New York Business Editor Greg David, who has taught business and urban journalism at the CUNY J-School for the past three years, has agreed to serve as director of the Business & Economics Reporting Program, effective January 1, 2010. He takes over from Prof. Sarah Bartlett, who will continue to head the Urban Reporting concentration and teach business and urban courses.

Along with his new appointment at the J-School, David announced December 1 that he is resigning as the editorial director of Crain’s New York Business at the end of the year, although he will remain a contributor to the paper. David began his career in 1976 at Business Insurance, another publication of Crain Communications, and he worked at Crain’s Chicago Business before moving to New York in 1985 to help launch Crain’s New York Business.

David brings considerable energy and professional skills to the classroom each week, said Dean Stephen B. Shepard. He has also been active in the J-School community, serving on the Governance Council and the Admissions Committee.

“Greg David understands business journalism and he understands New York City, and the combination is great for us,” Shepard said. “Of course, we are grateful to Sarah Bartlett for creating an outstanding business reporting program on which Greg can build.”
