Interactive Students Cover NYC Events Live
CUNY Graduate School of Journalism interactive students are teaming up with the NYCity News Service to provide live coverage of nearly a dozen events around New York City this weekend.
Using mobile technology that’s increasingly part of the School’s classroom curriculum, the student teams will liveblog, tweet, post photos, and stream live audio and video from the field in real time.
The coverage is part of the School’s Changing NYC project, which is attempting to put faces to the numbers recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau, while offering a snapshot of life in the city.
For instance, Friday evening will see a classic struggle for space between a charter and traditional school in Prospect Heights. Saturday will be filled with block parties and festivals, from the NYC Food Festival to Williamsburg’s Graham Avenue Fiesta to the annual Children of the World Street Festival. And Sunday will focus on the city’s gay community with a coverage of the Urban Bear Fair and a live debate over gay marriage.
