J-School Captures 12 SPJ Excellence Awards
CUNY Graduate School of Journalism news outlets – including 219 West TV news magazine, the AudioFiles podcast and the NYCity News Service – scored a total 12 awards in the Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence Awards competition for Region 1, which covers most of the Northeast.
First-place finishers, which will be announced April 26 at Region 1’s annual Spring Conference, to be held at Boston University, become eligible for national SPJ awards.
Among the J-School winners in the competition, which honors the best in student journalism:
•219 West made the Best All-Around Television Newscast category.
•AudioFiles produced two winning projects: Ann Marie Awad and Topher Forhecz placed in the Radio In-Depth Reporting category for their City in Demand series. Kathleen Culliton’s report, “Gliding Toward Olympic Glory,” made the Radio Sports Reporting category.
AudioFiles is posted on the NYCity News Service, which won another nine awards – including a finalist slot in the Best Independent Online Student Publication category. NYCity News Service multimedia special reports also took two of the three places in each of four other categories:
