The minimum requirements are listed below but keep in mind that, if you’re going to focus on either Broadcast or Interactive, you should consider upgrading from our minimum system requirements to a higher performance system with a better processor, a larger hard drive, additional memory (RAM), better graphics processor and/or a larger display.
Minimum System Requirements:
- Model – Apple MacBook Pro (Mid 2009 or Newer)
- Processor – 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or better
- RAM (Memory) – 4GB RAM (8GB is recommended)
- Hard Drive – 250GB Serial ATA drive @ 5400 rpm (7200rpm is recommended)
- Optical Drive – 8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
- Ports – FireWire port/SD Card Slot
- AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth
- Built-in iSight Camera
- AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro–Auto-enroll

If you already own an Apple laptop and want to determine if it meets school’s minimum requirements, please email your laptop’s serial number to mylaptop@journalism.cuny.edu. The IT Help Desk team will need to determine if the school’s software bundle can be installed on your laptop.
Purchases direct from Apple do not include pre-installed copies of the school’s licensed software. The school’s IT staff will install the software on your laptop. Once you have been accepted, the IT department will be in touch with you to make arrangements for the software installation.
