Although the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism is publicly supported, it depends on privately raised funds for the scholarships and academic enhancements that will ensure its success as a top-flight graduate program. Financial support from individuals — including alumni, families, and friends — and from foundations and corporations is key to our mission of enrolling a diverse group of talented and promising students. It also can help subsidize such hallmarks of our program as the required professional summer internships.
Since the School’s inception more than four years ago, its friends and supporters have donated more than $16 million to help it achieve its goals. To date, gifts have been used to offer approximately 175 full and partial scholarships to students who otherwise couldn’t afford to attend the School. These need-based scholarships have ranged in size from $1,000 to $8,500.
In order to build a truly great program, the School must continue to secure supplementary support from the private sector. Gifts of any size are welcome and can make a big difference in the lives and academic experience of CUNY J-School students. A list of various giving opportunities appears at the left.
We are grateful for the support of our early donors and for their commitment to our mission. We hope that you will join them in contributing to this unique and growing graduate journalism school.
