CUNY J-Camp: Secrets of the NYC Economy

Date & Time:
October 7, 2010
Location:

CUNY Graduate School of Journalism

Find out everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the NYC economy but haven’t had a chance to ask.

  • If New York City were a country, where would its economy rank in the world?
  • What is the largest sector of the city’s economy measured by employment?
  • Why is Wall Street the city’s dominant industry even though it accounts for 5% of the city’s workforce?
  • In terms of severity, how crippling was the last recession? (The answer might surprise you.)

Those are just some of the questions you will be able to answer after a special 90-minute crash course on the economy designed for journalists covering New York and people working on public policy issues in the city. The course will provide an understanding of the city’s economy, the challenges it faces and the role of public policy in shaping the economy.
