Real Reels Workshop: The Rewind

Date & Time:
From 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM on May 5, 2011
Location:

Room 330

Back by popular demand — a repeat of the workshop given earlier this semester by Barbara Raab, senior news writer at NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and CUNY J-School instructor .

Aiming for an on-camera TV reporting career? Come to this workshop to learn how to make a reporter’s demo reel that will get you noticed. Barbara Raab will present real reels that landed real people (including CUNY J-School grads) real jobs. And you’ll get the chance to hear advice from local news directors interviewed by Raab. (Many say they go through hundreds of reels to make a single hire.)

The workshop will also offer tips for aspiring on-air reporters on how to gather content for a reel during J-School coursework and summer internships. This workshop will focus primarily on landing a first on-air job in a small-to-medium-size local news market. It’s designed, too, to be valuable for those who plan to strike out on their own.

For CUNY Graduate School of Journalism students only.
