Smock, John – Adjunct Faculty, Photojournalism, Fundamentals of Interactive Journalism

John Smock is a photojournalist who works for SIPA, a photo agency with offices in New York and in Paris, and the Associated Press. His work has appeared in many publications including The New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, and Washingtonpost.com. In 2005 Smock was awarded a Knight International Press Fellowship to the Middle East, where he assisted regional publications in developing the visual components of their publications. He has worked as an instructor at the International Center for Photography in New York and has also has worked as a journalism trainer in several former Soviet Republics, Cambodia, and Afghanistan. Prior to becoming a photographer, Smock worked as a reporter, editor, and consultant for New York Today, the predecessor for The New York Times Online. He earned his master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
