It’s pegged to the new remake of “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.”

More train news: Lois DeSocio contributed a story and short video to the New Jersey branch of The Local about the groundbreaking for the planned new tube under the Hudson.
If you missed the Independent Sources broadcast featuring Rima Abdelkader’s video about an Iraqi translator caught between two worlds, you can check it out here, about 20 minutes into the June 10 edition. The story also is on the News Service.

Ben Fractenberg’s 219 Magazine humor piece about Twittering through history made the Huffington Post.

Joel Schectman shared the byline on this BusinessWeek.com story about whether Palm’s Pre is living up to the hype.

Looks like our reporters are off to a quick, productive start to the summer (and it’s not even officially summer yet!) Here are some of the latest links:

Our Brooklyn immigration project – Brooklyn Bridges Culture - is online. Congrats and thanks to all of our Craft II reporters and profs for turning around another project that shows the power of our News Service to tell great stories about our city. Special thanks to Drew Geraets for designing the main page and for making changes on the fly to our template to better accommodate the multimedia elements our reporters produced. Thanks also are due to Collin Orcutt and Kristen Joy Watts for assembling our interactive Google map guide to the 18 multimedia packages our Craft teams produced.

If you missed the piece about a Sikh City Council candidate Jackie Linge produced for Prof. Prout’s “Independent Sources,” no worries: check out this link from the CUNY TV website. You’ll find Jackie’s story about 21 minutes in. But watch the whole show if you can – there also are contributions from alums Abi Ishola and Adeola Oladele.

Nick Loomis’ essay about the changing world of photojournalism made The New York Times’ Lens photoblog.

Speaking of The Times, our crew at the The Local has been very busy: Kristen snapped the photo for this piece. Ben Fractenberg brought together this blog post by a Google employee who lives in the neighborhood. Jim Flood wrote about an artist who does unique portraits of homeless folks.

Joel Schectman penned a timely article for BusinessWeek.com about China’s clamp down on social media amid the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre.

Emily Feldman wrote a piece for NBC Local Integrated Media about how MySpace is courting an older demographic with music. Meanwhile, Mark Morales wrote about aging lefty fireballer Randy Johnson for the site.

Sophia Tewa’s story about high school students doing volunteer work as part of their studies made the Daily News. Kate Nocera did some rewrite for the News’ website on Roger Federer’s big French Open win.

Here’s the latest issue of Insight magazine, edited by Maya Pope-Chappell.

Maya also helped keep our News Service hopping with her video piece about journalism education. Rima Abdelkader contributed a video story about an Iraqi refugee and her family’s unsettled new life in Brooklyn. Mirva Lempiainen and Igor Kossov combined on a video story about science education, with an accompanying print piece by Mirva. Aisha Al-Muslim wrote about the danger of bringing strollers on the subways.

In our alumni corner, Dan Macht wrote about small business owners’ troubles getting loans. The piece is featured on Crain’s New York Business’ Future of New York City site.

Congrats to all – and keep ‘em coming!

Xiomara Martinez-White wrote about the trend of folks purchasing travel insurance with a layoff insurance option. Her piece made Marie Claire. Stop by my office for a look.

Mike Reicher helped produce a timely blog post for The Local, written by a merchant who is balancing business with motherhood.

Maria Clark informed Daily News readers about Con Ed’s agreement to meet with Queens residents furious about a deadly gas explosion.

Joel Schectman shared a byline on this Daily News story about a New York couple who got married while serving in Afghanistan.

Tim Persinko wrote a piece for The News about the rising price of sending snail mail.

Ben Fractenberg covered a citywide middle school math tournament for The News.

Sergey Kadinsky reported for The News on a charity boxing tournament pitting New York’s Finest against Suffolk’s Finest.

Our News Service was busy this week:

Joe Walker put together a story and audio slideshow about the recent Building Green Expo.

Maybe the Yankees’ recent woes can be attributed to karma. Maya Pope-Chappell, Lois DeSocio, Alex Green IV, Nicholas C. Martinez and Rachel Senatore teamed to assemble this multimedia package on how high school ballplayers displaced by the Bombers’ new stadium are still looking for a new home.

Robert Voris wrote about plans for an 18-story condo that would give DUMBO a free middle school, but potentially block views of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Sophia Tewa’s video report on asthma in East Harlem packaged well with Aisha Al-Muslim’s print story, which, as noted previously, made the Daily News.

In our alumni corner, Claudia Cruz found a local angle on Chrysler’s restructuring for the Queens Courier.
