• Sophie Cocke, Indrani Datta, Jeanmarie Evelly, Meital Fried, Alex Green IV and Rachel Senatore served as production associates on the latest “Talking Health” webcast. The show, produced by Prof. Williston and moderated by Prof. Lieberman, looks at the future of Medicare.
• The latest edition of “219 West” aired this week, with contributions by Rima Abdelkader, Aisha Al-Muslim, John De Petro, Nick Loomis and Geneva Sands-Sadowitz. “219 West” repeats today (Saturday) at 8 p.m. and tomorrow (Sunday) at 10 a.m., on CUNY TV, Channel 75.

• Shane Dixon Kavanaugh contributed a story and photo gallery to The Local about a former neighborhood woman slain during a visit home. Speaking of The Times, Kerri MacDonald contributed a post to The Lens blog about a photographer who is documenting the impact of climate change.
• Sergey Kadinsky wrote about Bruce Springsteen’s support for gay marriage in a piece for CBS News.com.
• Mike Reicher’s News Service story about Mark (Deep Throat) Felt’s FBI file gained some notice from Politico and The Daily News. Meanwhile, Jordan Shakeshaft offered a piece about a fleet-footed MetroCard scavenger.
• Joel Schectman shared a byline on a Daily News story about State Sen. Hiram Monserrate. Kate Nocera contributed to a follow-up story about the Times Square gunman.
• Amber Benham wrote a book review for The Brooklyn Rail. Her piece is second-to-last in the string.

• Alana Casanova-Burgess earned a Daily News clip with her piece about a row of Harlem buildings slated for a green overhaul. Kate Nocera wrote a first-person piece about testing how fast traffic agents are on the draw. Maria Clark shared the byline on a story about a double-murder in Queens. Rima Abdelakader and Mary Stachyra wrote about the scourge of sex trafficking, interviewing a woman once forced to work in a Queens brothel. Joel Schectman contributed to the paper’s Black Friday coverage.

• Tim Persinko covered a fraud case sentencing in Manhattan Federal Court for Arkansas Business.
• Sergey Kadinsky’s story about recycling woes in Mott Haven made the Mott Haven Herald. Carla Candia, meanwhile, wrote about the day laborers who congregate on E. 141^st St. and Jackson Ave.
• Karina Ioffee, Sophie Tewa and Nicholas Martinez’s video piece about the hassle of getting rid of e-waste found a home on the News Service, and packages nicely with Karina’s previously published Daily News article.
• Jessica Simeone’s story about an art peddler bounced from the High Line made the New York Post.
• Michael Preston writes about The Boss and David Brooks in his latest post for True/Slant.

• Damiano Beltrami’s story about a teenager cleared of a robbery thanks to a Facebook status alibi hit The New York Times trifecta: The front page of the New York section, the City Room blog and The Local. The story also got picked up by the AP and a ton of other media outlets.
• Speaking of The Local, Kerri MacDonald covered a debate over whether rooming houses should be allowed in South Orange. Ines Bebea wrote about a $25,000 prize awarded to Fort Greene’s Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project. Valerie Lapinski’s piece about a photographer who chronicled life in a Hong Kong public housing complex made The Times’ Lens blog. Nick Loomis, meanwhile, put together a package on sports photography for Lens, and Kristen Joy Watts co-produced an audio slideshow for Lens featuring the work of the chief photographer for The Times’ Neediest Case Fund series.
• Michael Cohen’s essay about graduating college during a recession made The Nation.
• The latest edition of “219 West,” which airs on CUNY TV, features stories by Rima Abdelkader, Aisha Al-Muslim, John De Petro, Geneva Sands-Sadowitz and Brian Winkowski. The show should be posted online here in the coming days.
• Joel Schectman shared a byline on a Daily News front-page story about college students struggling with high school-level math. Kate Nocera wrote an article about how rocker Ryan Star put out-of-work New Yorkers in a music video. Mark Morales contributed to a story about the accidental death of a popular drummer. Karina Ioffee got nice play in the Your Money section with her feature on recycling e-waste.
• Lots of news coming out of the Bronx: The new issue of The Hunts Point Express features contributions by Maria Clark, Azriel James Relph and Sandra Roa (I have a copy of Sandra’s story and photo spread – come on by for a look). The latest Mott Haven Herald boasts stories by Carla Candia, Jeanmarie Evelly, Sergey Kadinsky and Lindsay Lazarski.
• The runner stumbles: I inadvertently neglected to mention last week that Krissy Dolor contributed to the News Service’s marathon package. Meanwhile, both Erica Soto and Janet Lawrence placed marathon pieces on websites.
• Sherry Mazzocchi’s story about the effort to save Stella Maris High School made The Queens Courier. Meanwhile, the paper published Perry Santanachote’s story about the bid to attract younger veterans to a Queens VFW post. (Come on by my office for a look at the piece.) Almudena Toral’s article about the graduation of a Latino youth military cadets group made El Correo de Queens, the Courier’s Spanish-language edition.
• Liza Eckert’s article about a vigil held by gay marriage advocates made the Queens Chronicle.
• Michael Preston tackles the Murdoch-Google battle for True/Slant.
• Maya Pope-Chappell’s story about a new life for a nightspot named Death & Co. made NBC Local Integrated Media’s New York site. Meanwhile, Emily Feldman wrote about a Sesame Street 40^th anniversary ceremony.
• Jessica Simeone shared a byline on a New York Post story about the city’s slowest bus lines.
• Eleanor Miller contributed to the Tribeca Trib’s Yankees parade cover.

• The reporters in our Interactive Fundamentals sections fanned out around the city, Flip Video cameras in hand, and asked dozens of New Yorkers: “Tell us one way the recession has changed your life.” The results of the video vox pop are plotted out on a Google map. The hits already are starting to roll in, through both the News Service site and YouTube. Thanks to all the reporters and professors involved. Special shoutouts are due to Drew Geraets, Collin Orcutt and Kristen Joy Watts who made the map presentation come to life.
• Kieran Meadows spent his summer as a Carnegie Fellow with the Brian Ross Investigative Unit at ABC. The piece he worked on – a “Harvest of Shame”-style expose of the use of children as fruit pickers – hit the ABC trifecta last week, with segments on “Good Morning America,” “World News with Charlie Gibson” and “Nightline.” ABCnews.com also ran a print story – co-written by Angela Hill (’07), our first Carnegie Fellow. It looks like the Ross story already is having an impact.
• Joel Schectman’s report about fears that U.S. satellites might be vulnerable to attack made BusinessWeek.
• Joe Walker broke into The New York Times’ Metro section with his story about a developer who was barred from selling apartments in New York State. Mike Reicher, meanwhile, wrote a piece for The Times’ City Room blog about a U.N. investigation of New York’s affordable housing situation. David Montalvo, writing for the New Jersey branch of The Local, profiled a Millburn township committee candidate, while Lois DeSocio wrote about new lacrosse nets for Memorial Park.
• Page 18 of last Monday’s Daily News was a J-School affair. Maria Clark, Mark Morales and Kate Nocera’s bylines popped up on different stories.
• Sergey Kadinsky wrote about the New Jersey gubernatorial race for CBSNews.com.
• Alana Rigal’s video piece about offbeat mayoral candidates made the News Service. It’s a version of a longer story she did for “219 West,” which now can be found online.

• How’s this for J-School teamwork: Nicholas Martinez’ feature about “pink-slip parties” included additional reporting by Aaron Adler, Aashish Jethra, Erin McCarthy. The story made am New York.
• Janet Lawrence’s profile of a maintenance worker at the Paramount Plaza is featured in Our Town.
• Emily Feldman wrote a story for NBC Local Integrated Media about three Harlem restaurants offering an unusual special: free round-trip car service rides.  Maya Pope-Chappell, meanwhile, wrote about two young brothers who gave their World Series tickets to charity.

Lois DeSocio put out the call for participants in an upcoming journalism workshop for students in North Jersey, a key part of our Local mission. • How’s this for J-School teamwork: Kristen Joy Watts co-produced this audio slideshow about the golf course at Bethpage State Park – home to the U.S. Open – with Leslie Ann Caraballo (Class of ’07) for the New York Times’ Lens blog.
• Kristen and other members of our Local team offered posts last week on an important part of our mission: community training. Kristen is collecting used digital cameras so she can train middle schoolers in photography. Mike Reicher and Lois DeSocio are putting together training efforts for high schoolers. Meanwhile, Jim Flood is up to his ankles in rats. He’s hoping to use his story to kick off a collaborative reporting project.
