The Online Master’s in Bilingual Journalism at the Newmark J-School prepares the next generation of English-Spanish speaking professionals to thrive in today’s media landscape and to forge their own paths as leaders, entrepreneurs, or independent journalists.

Our curriculum helps you strengthen your journalistic skills and master media entrepreneurship, product development, and audience engagement. You’ll also explore specialized topics such as migration and identity and the impact of artificial intelligence on the world of journalism.

This one-year Master’s program features asynchronous, fully-online classes, allowing you to learn from anywhere in the world on your own schedule. Adapted from our world-class in-person M.A. in Bilingual Journalism, this accessible format broadens our scope beyond U.S.-based Latino communities to include topics relevant to the wider Spanish-speaking news world.

Do you offer financial aid?
Students may complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online. General eligibility requirements include being a U.S. citizen or national, or an eligible non-citizen. The FAFSA collects the basic information needed to determine eligibility for all federal financial aid programs.Graduate students are not eligible for the Federal Pell Grant or the New York State Tuition Assistance (TAP) program.

Please note, applicants to the Online M.A. in Journalism – Bilingual program are not eligible for institutional scholarships.

How is this program different?
This program emphasizes journalistic skills for the Hispanic news world both in the U.S. and across the Spanish-speaking world preparing students to work in media across geographies.

What is the duration and format of the program?
It is a one-year, fully online and asynchronous program.

Will all classes be in Spanish?
No, the program is bilingual. Some classes will be in Spanish, others in English.

Will I need to move to New York?
No. The program is 100% online and asynchronous, so there is no need to travel at any point. You can complete the degree from your current location.

Who teaches the courses?
Courses are taught by an experienced faculty of journalists well-versed in journalistic rigor and innovation.

Can this program help with networking?
Yes. Students will connect with peers, instructors, and join a strong alumni network.

What technology do I need?
A computer, high-speed internet, webcam, mic, and audio input/output. Some courses may require specific software/hardware.

Note: This is a fully online and asynchronous program. There is no need for physical relocation or travel to the United States. All steps—from application to graduation—are completed remotely.
