The News Integrity Initiative is not accepting letters of inquiry or new requests while we continue to review previously submitted inquiries and proposals. Please check back for updated information and also visit our Year of Listening website.
In order to determine whether a proposed project or program fits within NII priorities, organizations must first complete a brief online inquiry, which will be reviewed by NII staff. Upon review, NII will inform applicants whether or not they will be invited to submit a full proposal.
Applying for funding is a highly competitive process, and funding priority will be given to applicants who meet multiple criteria. We endeavor to respond to applicants in a timely manner and to treat all inquiries with respect and careful attention.
Please note, NII does not fund:
- Direct grants to individuals
- Capital projects, equipment purchases or endowment funds
- Political activities or activities to influence specific legislation
Additionally, applicants must be a non-profit or public institution to receive funding. NII does reserve the right to make exceptions for special projects that are aligned with the charitable mission of the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism Foundation.
