219West Production

Course Details

This module will focus on the planning and packaging of 219West from conceptualization of each episode of the monthly news magazine to the final show edit. In this hands-on course students will serve as executive producers, show editors, and hosts of 219West for television or the Web. Unlike the 3-credit TV News Magazine course offered in the fall, students will not produce field reports.

For more than ten years 219West has aired on CUNY TV, showcasing student-produced work to a wide audience via television and the Web. In the third semester, 219West is produced by students in the TV News Magazine course but in the second semester it has been embedded in Craft 2.

Many students in the course “formerly known as Craft 2” were interested in field producing enterprise stories but had little desire to be part of producing a show. Others, especially those interested in show management, advanced editing and hosting, welcomed the opportunity.

This module would separate the production of 219West from a specific course in the second semester. Videos from other courses, Advanced Video, Deadline and others, would provide much of the content. Students in 219West would be responsible for designing and shepherding the show to air or publication each month.

This module would be valuable for students who want to work behind the scenes as magazine show producers and editors, as well as in front of the camera hosting and conducting studio interviews.
