Producing a live-to-air radio program is a fast and exciting experience but one riddled with a lot of potential difficulty. Producers need to know what to expect from their team, how to communicate effectively, how to book guests and how to deal with the bane of every live production: looming failure. This class will prepare producers with an intimate knowledge of the recording studio and all of the equipment used to operate it. From the ISDN to the Phone Hybrid to the Mixing Console to EQ’s and Compressors to advanced Pro Tools techniques. All of this will culminate with students engineering one of the live shows produced in the studio with the third semester Radio Newsmagazine: AudioFiles. We’ll work together to set up the show, prepare the studio, work with the musical guests and engineer the show as it streams live.
