Arts and Entertainment Reporting

Course Details

In this class students will focus on story types that are among the most common in cultural reporting. They’ll learn to execute such stories themselves, including walk-up preview stories; obituaries and the attendant career salutes that accompany them; cultural-impact stories that chart an emerging trend or provide a reality check on a major fictional work (e.g., what’s factually true or not true in a biographical or historical drama); and making-of and legacy stories that examine how a specific creative work has been conceived, created and distributed. Students will leave this class with a deeper understanding of how to craft these common story forms no matter what medium they’re in, be it text, audio or video.
