This exciting 5-week module is all about reporters and anchors going “live” in the tradition of cable news, local TV and live internet news outlets like Cheddar. How do you report from the scene of a story, where little information is known? What do reporters do when they lose IFB communication with the control room? Students will learn the art of reporting facts gathered minutes before going live. They will learn how to ad-lib new information in a breaking news scenario, and useful skills like what to do when reporting in dangerous weather conditions or if a person disrupts a reporter’s live-shot. Lectures, exercises, live on-scene reporting from Times Square and mock breaking news shows in the broadcast studio will help students learn essential skills the most seasoned reporters and anchors have mastered, when the clock counts down to zero and you’re live!
