In this advanced version of Craft, students write more sophisticated NYC-based enterprise stories that reach beyond community districts, for a broader market. You’ll learn a host of new story forms, including explainers, service and consumer stories, curtain raisers and anniversary stories, trend and follow stories, news analysis, and Q&A. You’ll put to use multimedia and data skills learned in the first semester to enrich your stories visually and back them up. We’ll hear from guests on “How I got that story,” and work toward writing more in your own voice. A heavy focus will be on pitching and selling your stories. You’ll write three enterprise stories plus some spot news stories. Finally, we’ll work as a team on a deeply reported and visually vibrant news package on a topic chosen by the class, following a solutions journalism approach.
