Craft of Journalism II

Advanced Radio Reporting and Newswriting

Course Details

This course builds on the editorial and production skills learned in the first semester Fundamentals of Multimedia Storytelling course and the writing/reporting skills of Craft I. Students will strengthen their reporting, writing and research skills for the ear–and hone their recording and digital editing skills—through critical listening sessions, lectures, class discussion, in-class exercises, and outside class projects. The course will emphasize multiple edits and drafts and original reporting and enterprise stories. Over the course of the semester, students will pitch and complete two feature news stories. They will also work on two team newscasts streamed live and produced on deadline in the J-School’s studio.

(This course fulfills the prerequisite requirement for the following classes taught in the 3rd semester: Investigative Radio and AudioFiles).
