Advanced Reporting and Writing combines elements of digital-first instruction and a deep dive into NYC-based storytelling. Stories are enterprise-driven and usually combine the written word with a variety of multimedia and interactive storytelling elements. Close attention is paid to advanced story structure and research methods, effective pitching, self-editing, strategic use of data and higher level social media tools. Working in a newsroom environment, all students receive rigorous one-on-one edits.
Requirement: Students in both the MA-Journalism and the MA-Social Journalism are required publish at least one piece of work each semester in Craft 1 and 2 (MAJ) and Reporting for Social J and Advanced Reporting for Social J (MASJ). Students can fulfill this requirement with work from any first or second-semester class.
