Introduction to Health Journalism

Course Details

Health journalists don’t just cover illness. They report on the overlap between public health and social issues such as gun violence and addiction. In this required introductory class, students choose a beat — health disparities, grief, life extension, or birth control, to name a few examples. They master skills such as how to assess scientific claims, find and vet experts, connect with patients, and identify the emerging trends that don’t make it into medical press releases.
