Startup Sprint

Course Details

Build something of your own! This 10-week module focuses on developing your own journalism startup. We’ll operate in sprint mode, moving quickly through the five-week term starting with training in idea development and moving on to a fun and creative process for sharpening ideas into sketches. We’ll then test and refine those ideas and sketches and build prototypes.

By the time the course ends, you’ll have conceived of and taken the first steps toward launching your own new venture. Along the way you’ll learn about what helps journalism startups succeed — and in many cases, fail. Students in the past have developed new topic-focused websites newsletters, apps and brands that fill gaps in the media ecosystem.

Students meet once weekly in person and participate online during the week in course-related discussions. The course consists of project-based learning, meaning that sessions involved doing, not just listening. In between sessions you’ll have interesting readings, discussions, and assignments to help you develop your venture.
