SUMMARY:What's Happening Now in Indie Film Distribution
DESCRIPTION:Join Impact Producer Denae Peters of Film Sprout and Founder/CEO Deshuna Peters of kweliTV in a conversation on the distribution landscape for docs right now\, moderated by Distribution & Marketing Director Roselly Torres of Third World Newsreel. There are so many options available to the independent filmmaker. Should you go the festival route or a community engagement campaign? Broadcast\, online or theatrical? Streaming or pay-per-view or VOD or DVD (people still buy DVDs?)? That’s not even all your options. These women don’t have all the answers (ultimately you have to make choices)\, but they do have many good ones given their combined diverse experiences\, AND they are willing to share their knowledge. \nDenae Peters works at the New York-based consulting and distribution firm Film Sprout where she directs strategic grassroots\, community screening campaigns for feature length documentaries about social justice issues. There Peters has worked on campaigns for Care by CCNY Professor Deirdre Fishel\, Whose Streets? and is currently working on Big Sonia and For Ahkeem. \nDeShuna Spencer\, a social entrepreneur\, is the Founder/CEO of kweliTV\, an interactive video streaming network for the global black consumer. kweliTV is dedicated to the stories\, issues and culture of the global black community. The platform offers a vast selection of on-demand independent films\, web shows\, news and historical programming\, and documentaries specifically of the black experience from the US and across the globe. \nThird World Newsreel is a progressive\, non profit media center which works in educational distributor\, alternative media production and training\, promoting and nurturing media by and about people of color and social justice issues. Its collection ranges from unique 1960s and 1970s radical documentaries on the Black Panthers and the Young Lords to present day social issue films such as HARVEST OF EMPIRE\, PROMISED LAND\, ANOMALY\, among other films.
