SUMMARY:How Community Media Can Obtain NYC Press Credentials
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Samer Nasser\, Executive Director\, Press Credentials Office\, NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment \nThis hour-long workshop will delve into the process of applying for New York City press credentials. It will also explain the changes introduced by Local Law 46 of 2021\, which transferred the responsibility of issuing press credentials from the NYPD to the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) and established the Press Credentials Office (PCO). \nDesigned for media professionals aspiring to obtain a City of New York Press Card\, the event offers guidance on rules and procedures governing issuance\, denial\, suspension\, or revocation of NYC press cards. \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the press credentials portal and successfully submit an application for a City of New York Press Card. Topics to be discussed will include the following: \n\nAbout MOME/PCO (Rules and Law 46 of 2021)\nCity of New York Press Cards (Types/Uses)\nApplication Portal (Digital Process)\nCardholder Rights (Privileges & Responsibilities)\n\nCCM is organizing this workshop in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. If you have any questions\, contact ccm@journalism.cuny.edu. \nRegister for the NYC Press Credentials training \n\nSamer Nasser is the Executive Director of the Press Credentials Office (PCO) at the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) where she oversees the City’s press credentialing operations\, helps qualified journalists obtain press cards\, and works with City government agencies and other organizations like the Center for Community Media at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. As a native New Yorker and a first-generation Arab American fluent in Arabic\, Samer’s expertise was honed at CBS News as a National News Producer\, overseeing editorial elements for prominent programs. Her 20+ year career in journalism includes roles such as International News Editor at Al Jazeera America and Business News Desk Manager at Fox Business Network.
