DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Amy Kovac-Ashley\, Executive Director\, Tiny News Collective \nSuccession planning is one of the most overlooked yet critical challenges facing community and ethnic media today. In an era of shrinking local news coverage and growing news deserts\, the lack of a clear plan for leadership transition can threaten the survival of entire news outlets. When publishers or newsroom leaders retire or pass away without a succession plan\, communities risk losing vital sources of information altogether. \nThis 90-minute webinar will explore this crucial topic and provide practical guidance for sustaining community media organizations. Participants will learn the following: \nWhat succession planning is and why it matters for community media\nHow to implement succession planning effectively in small newsrooms\nModels and pathways for transferring leadership\nKey tools and resources\, including those available at no cost \nThe event will be held online using Zoom. Please follow the instructions you receive  after registering. \nEmail Jehangir Khattak if you do not receive a confirmation message or if you have any questions. \nThe training has been developed by CCM and is funded by the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. \nInstructor: Amy Kovac-Ashley is the executive director of Tiny News Collective\, which provides the tools\, resources and learning community to support early-stage news entrepreneurs build community-focused news organizations. She has spent a dozen years coaching news organizations\, executives and journalists. Her work at API and Lenfest Institute focused on local news sustainability and organizational culture. She was also a journalism educator and administrator at WVU and Georgetown University. Previously\, she was a reporter and editor\, with a background in community engagement. Kovac-Ashley authored the “News Executive Leadership Transition Guide” and advises news leaders and boards on operational resilience and succession planning. \nRegister Via Zoom
