SUMMARY:Community Listening in Action Across New York Newsrooms
DESCRIPTION:What happens when journalism begins by listening?  \nJoin the Center for Community Media and Listening Post Collective for a special showcase celebrating the first Community Listening Internship — a collaboration connecting Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY students with community and ethnic media newsrooms across New York. \nOver the past summer\, interns worked alongside local publishers to better understand what their communities need to know\, what questions remain unanswered\, and how listening can shape stronger\, more relevant journalism. \nDuring this event\, interns and newsroom leaders from NepYork\, Greenpointers\, and Roosevelt Islander will share what it felt like to do this kind of intentional and rigorous engagement and listening\, how community insights informed their reporting\, and what they discovered about the people they serve. \nFollowing the showcase\, stay for a Social Hour — an informal gathering at the Cafeteria bringing together students\, faculty\, journalists\, and community media leaders for networking and connection. \nWhether you are a journalism student interested in engagement\, a newsroom leader curious about hosting future interns\, or someone committed to the future of community journalism\, this is an opportunity to connect\, learn\, and celebrate. \nCome hear what communities told us — and imagine what we can build next. \n
