Gessen – Opinion columnist for The New York Times and Distinguished Professor at Newmark J-School\nEditors\, safety experts\, and legal advocates – A small group of invited participants bringing on-the-ground expertise and strategies to support trans and non-binary journalists.\n\nThe Safety Series \nThis event is part of the Fall 2025 Safety Series\, a three-part program from the Newmark J-School’s Journalism Protection Initiative exploring the biggest threats to media safety and press freedom in the U.S. Covering topics including shifting immigration policy; global declines in press freedom; the precarity of safe havens; and dangers to trans and non-binary journalists\, each session highlights urgent issues while offering space to share experiences\, strategies and solutions.
