She is the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and a graduate of Columbia University’s Journalism School. \n\nTamoa Calzadilla is a co-founder of Acento Story Tank and an award-winning investigative journalist\, mentor\, and media leader with more than 25 years of experience leading high-impact teams in Latin America and the United States across investigative journalism\, fact-checking\, and media literacy. Her work focuses on strengthening information ecosystems that serve marginalized communities\, particularly Latino and Spanish-speaking audiences in the U.S. She directed Univision’s el Detector\, the first Spanish-language fact-checking platform in the country\, and was Editor in Chief of Factchequeado.com. She was named Journalist of the Year 2024 by the News Literacy Project and is a John S. This 90-minute virtual training aims to equip community journalists with essential cybersecurity knowledge and practical tools to safeguard their data\, communications\, and digital presence. Previously\, she was Head of Cybersecurity at the Associated Press\, where she protected journalists across 190 countries and multiple conflict zones. Her experience includes leadership roles on Zoom’s Insider Risk team and Citibank’s Global Cyber Fusion Center\, overseeing 50 cyber intelligence and incident response professionals. Earlier\, Danielle worked at Booz Allen Hamilton assessing state-sponsored cyber threats for U.S. federal clients. She began her career at the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. Danielle holds degrees from Hamilton College and George Washington University and is a registered Private Investigator.

DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Amy Kovac-Ashley\, Executive Director\, Tiny News Collective \nSuccession planning is one of the most overlooked yet critical challenges facing community and ethnic media today. In an era of shrinking local news coverage and growing news deserts\, the lack of a clear plan for leadership transition can threaten the survival of entire news outlets. When publishers or newsroom leaders retire or pass away without a succession plan\, communities risk losing vital sources of information altogether. \nThis 90-minute webinar will explore this crucial topic and provide practical guidance for sustaining community media organizations. Participants will learn the following: \nWhat succession planning is and why it matters for community media\nHow to implement succession planning effectively in small newsrooms\nModels and pathways for transferring leadership\nKey tools and resources\, including those available at no cost \nThe event will be held online using Zoom. She has spent a dozen years coaching news organizations\, executives and journalists. Her work at API and Lenfest Institute focused on local news sustainability and organizational culture. She was also a journalism educator and administrator at WVU and Georgetown University. Previously\, she was a reporter and editor\, with a background in community engagement.
