DESCRIPTION:The Newmark J-School’s HOT DOCS Series is hosting a special screening of the documentary film “Solitary” on Nov. 28 at 6:00 p.m. \n“Solitary: Inside Red Onion State Prison” takes an unprecedented look at life inside the supermax prison. In startlingly intimate and reflective interviews with the inmates\, we discover their violent childhoods\, the dangers of prison life\, and their struggles to maintain sanity in the unrelenting monotony of confinement. Interwoven with their stories are the voices of the corrections officers\, who are serving a different type of time right alongside the prisoners\, while they struggle to maintain their humanity. Filmed over the course of one year\, “Solitary” tells the stories of people caught in the complex American penal system and raises provocative questions about punishment in America today. “Solitary” premiered at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival and received several accolades including two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Investigative Documentary\, and an Independent Spirit Truer Than Fiction Award. \nThis event is free and open to the public.  Please RSVP here.
