DESCRIPTION:News organizations and digital storytellers have been experimenting with an exciting new way of creating immersive 3D experiences. SUMMARY:Manipulation\, Disinformation\, and Radicalization in American Politics
DESCRIPTION:The Spanish-language program and the Tow-Knight Center at The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY proudly presents a lecture by Yochai Benkler\, the co-director of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University. \nBenkler will tackle the conventional model of journalistic objectivity\, arguing that when journalists try to be neutral in their reporting\, they are complicit in creating and spreading disinformation. \nIn addition\, Benkler will trace the history of political polarization and the radicalization of the Conservative movement in America. He’ll also challenge popular proposals for media reform and present alternative ideas that tackle the longer-term issues facing U.S. democracy. \nBenkler’s new book “Network Propaganda” dives into a study where his team analyzed just under four million stories online about the election or national politics\, published between April 2015 and the one year anniversary of the Trump presidency\, using Media Cloud to see how information\, disinformation and propaganda spreads. \nThe lecture will be followed by a conversation with Carrie Brown\, the Social Journalism Director at Newmark J-School. \nThis event is free and open to the public.
