SUMMARY:Dan Harris of "Good Morning America" on Journalism and Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Join the New York Press Club at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism on Wednesday\, March 4\, 2020\, in conversation with Dan Harris\, co-anchor on the weekend edition of “Good Morning America” on ABC News. \nThe discussion with Harris\, an Emmy Award winner and recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award\, will delve into journalism\, anxiety\, and mindfulness. \nREGISTER HERE \nDan Harris used to think that meditation was for people who collect crystals\, play Ultimate Frisbee\, and use the word “namaste” without irony. After he had a panic attack on live television\, he went on a strange and circuitous journey that ultimately led him to become one of meditation’s most vocal public proponents. \nIn 2014\, Harris published the book “10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head\, Reduced Stress without Losing My Edge and Found Self-Help That Actually Works.” It went to #1 on the New York Times Bestsellers List and then became an app\, designed to teach meditation to skeptics\, and a podcast\, talking with smart people about whether there’s anything beyond 10%. In 2017\, Harris published a follow-up New York Times best-selling book “Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics: A 10% Happier How-To Book.” \nIn addition to his role as co-anchor on the weekend edition of “Good Morning America\,” he also regularly files reports for “Nightline\,” “World News Tonight with David Muir\,” “20/20\,” “Good Morning America\,” ABC News Digital\, and ABC News Radio. Previously\, he anchored “World News Sunday” and “Nightline.” \nJoin us for pizza and beverages at 6:30 p.m.\, followed by a conversation with Harris starting at 7 p.m. \nFree for students\, faculty\, and staff of the Newmark J-School. \n
