DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.  \nWhile reporting remains essential to journalism\, today’s information ecosystem demands a broader toolkit. How can we create learning networks where journalists and communities work together to solve local problems? \nIn this lunch workshop\, journalist and strategist Darryl Holliday will share practical approaches to building action-oriented communities of practice to enhance learning and public participation throughout the journalistic process. Drawing from his experience developing News Futures and City Bureau’s Documenters Network (now in 22 cities)\, Holliday will demonstrate how these collaborative design principles can be applied at both local and national scales. \nYou’ll learn: \n\nHow to build sustainable communities of practice\nStrategies for meaningful public participation in journalism\nReal-world civic impact examples: Local residents becoming paid documenters of public meetings\nCommunities advocating for public funding of independent media\nField leaders coming together to define shared goals\nTools for scaling community engagement\n\nDarryl Holliday is cofounder and partner at Commoner Company and lead steward of News Futures. He co-founded the Pulitzer Prize-winning civic media lab City Bureau and led the development of its signature programs. She is a writer\, former attorney\, and a scholar of Soviet history\, authoritarianism\, and human rights. She hosts the podcast “Unbreaking Media\,” which examines politics and culture through an intersectional feminist lens. Danielle was a founding member of See In Black photography collective\, owner of The Volta e-commerce shop of African designer goods\, and is a mentor for IED’s Master Creative Direction program in Florence\, Italy.
