DESCRIPTION:As the real-world consequences of social media come into focus\, a resilient coalition of parents\, Gen Z reformers and whistleblowers are swinging back. Can we rebuild the tools of our time to serve humanity\, or will we remain captive to the scroll? \nJoin Newmark J-School’s Arts & Culture Reporting program for a screening of “Your Attention Please.” And then\, join a post-screening Q&A featuring Kovie Biakolo\, Director of the Arts & Culture Reporting Program\, and the following guests: \n\nGrace Byron\, a writer from the Midwest based in Queens whose work has appeared in The New Yorker\, New York Magazine\, The Nation\, and Vogue\, among other outlets. Byron frequently writes about media\, trans politics\, and digital culture.\nJoni Siani\, a professor of psychology and media communications and a pioneer in digital socialization. Siani is also a global consultant on digital socialization and advisor to numerous organizations\, including Media Literacy Now\, the Screentime Action Network at Fairplay\, and the Distraction Free Childhood movement.\nDavid Ryan Polgar\, the Founder and President of All Tech Is Human\, a global non-profit uniting technologists\, researchers\, academics\, policymakers\, and civil society to build a safer digital future. Polgar is also a globally recognized pioneer in tech ethics and has served on key advisory bodies\, including TikTok’s U.S. Content Advisory Council.\n\nTickets are required for this event. DESCRIPTION:The Journalism Protection Initiative is putting on a series of hands-on lunchtime workshops to help you get the basics of digital security in place. \nYou will learn about digital safety in your LES classes\, but it can easily feel overwhelming. These sessions are designed to cut through that. You’ll leave each one having actually done something to improve your digital safety. \nAll you need to do is bring your laptop and phone\, we’ll bring the pizza! \nThe workshops are run by Kate Parkinson\, JPI’s Risk and Safety Manager\, and Davis Erin Anderson\, senior digital security trainer at the Freedom of the Press Foundation. \nRSVP.
