Al-Amyn Sumar is counsel at The New York Times Company. He handles newsroom matters, including prepublication review of stories, libel, and Freedom of Information Act litigation, news subpoenas, and intellectual property matters.
Al-Amyn was previously the First Amendment Fellow at The Times and an associate at Ballard Spahr LLP and Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz, LLP. He clerked for judges at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Supreme Court of Canada, and Court of Appeal for Ontario.
He is a graduate of Harvard Law School, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Alberta.
