Amy Dunkin joined the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY in January 2008 after a long career as a magazine and newspaper reporter and editor.
On July 1, 2023 she assumed the new position of director of administrative operations, in charge of the school’s facilities, Equipment Room, AV services, and property management. She also is is secretary of the Governance Council.
Previously, she was director of academic operations, serving as the J-School’s chief HR liaison with the Office of Human Resources at the CUNY Graduate Center, editing the J-School website, assisting with school communications, handling accreditation-related matters, and serving as the COVID campus liaison.
From September 2022 to February 2023, she took on the role of interim assistant dean for administration, overseeing academic operations, campus services and facilities, public safety, and technology. She has also been the campus Title IX coordinator.
Amy came to CUNY from BusinessWeek magazine, where she supervised the personal finance and lifestyle coverage; founded one of its first blogs, Working Parents; managed the summer internship program, and led a successful campaign for company-wide paid adoption benefits at McGraw-Hill.
Prior to that, she was a municipal and business reporter for The Record newspaper in northern New Jersey.
She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the State University of New York’s University at Buffalo with a B.A. in English and was editor-in-chief of the student newspaper.
