Carolina Hidalgo is an audio producer who leads Radio Rookies, WNYC’s award-winning youth journalism program. She works with teenagers and young adults to produce radio documentaries about their lives and communities.
Before joining WNYC, Carolina covered justice reform, social movements and inequality as a reporter and photojournalist at St. Louis Public Radio. In 2020, she won a Third Coast/Richard H. Driehaus award for reporting and producing a 70 Million podcast episode about the fight to shut down a notorious St. Louis jail. In 2019, she reported from the United States-Mexico border as part of an International Women’s Media Foundation fellowship. In 2018, she was named one of The Lit List’s “30 photographers to watch.”
Previously, Carolina worked as a photojournalist at the Naples Daily News and the Tampa Bay Times. She also volunteers as a mentor with NPR’s Next Generation Radio project. Carolina is a proud native New Yorker who reps Queens.
