John Schiumo is a television journalist in New York City with 21 years of experience as a news anchor and reporter. He is currently a freelance correspondent with CBS News.
John’s stories on the Halloween terror attack in Manhattan, the mass shooting in Las Vegas and hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico were seen in more than 200 cities across the country.
Before joining CBS in 2017, Schiumo hosted more than 3,600 live shows at NY1 News. He created “The Call” in 2005, the news industry’s first interactive newscast. And after the September 11th terror attacks, John anchored “New York Tonight” to document the recovery and rebuilding efforts in lower Manhattan.
John’s extensive live reporting experience has taken him to the World Trade Center during 9/11, St. Peter’s Square during Pope John Paul’s funeral, Nova Scotia for the crash of Swissair Flight 111, the 2001 Super Bowl and four ticker-tape parades up the Canyon of Heroes.
In recent years, Schiumo taught the “Craft of Journalism for Broadcast” and “Fundamentals of Multimedia Storytelling” at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
