John Templon is an award-winning investigative data reporter for BuzzFeed News. His work focuses on finding deep investigative stories through data analysis.
Templon’s story about match-fixing in tennis with Heidi Blake and the BBC’s Simon Blake won third prize for the Investigative Reporters and Editor’s Philip Meyer Award and was nominated for an ASME. He has also reported on how figure skating judges favor competitors from their own countries, disparities in immigration policy, and the Trump administration’s connections to private industry.
Prior to joining BuzzFeed, Templon worked at Chicago-based technology startup Narrative Science. He was part of the team at Northwestern University that invented the original version of the artificial intelligence software that takes data and automatically turns it into stories and insight and holds eight patents from its design.
