Kate (k.e.) Harloe is an award-winning independent writer and journalist, whose work has appeared in Mother Jones magazine, The Drift, Nieman Lab, San Francisco Magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle, New York Focus, North Country Public Radio, and many other places. She is a founding member of Flaming Hydra, a cooperative publication of 60 celebrated writers, where she writes a regular column. She has over a decade of experience in journalism and has been widely recognized for her writing on media and politics, as well as for her expertise in media policy, grassroots organizing, and community-driven media reform.
Kate is a proud member of the freelancers chapter of the National Writers Union, the Media Power Collaborative, and News Futures, where she leads a working group focused on media policy and reform. Prior to freelancing full time, Kate worked for a range of local and national news organizations across the U.S.
Kate received a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Hamilton College and a Masters in Journalism from U.C. Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.
