Larry Tung is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and multimedia journalist. He grew up in Taiwan and started his career with the English-language Taiwan News as a political reporter. Since 2000, he has reported on immigrant communities in New York City for news websites such as Gotham Gazette and Feet in Two Worlds.
Tung has received several fellowships, including the Vanderbilt Media Fellowship, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Faculty Fellowship. He will be a visiting scholar at the Asian Pacific American Institute at New York University 2018-2019.
Tung’s films focus on social justice and human rights issues. They have been featured in more than 40 film festivals around the world. One of his most recent films, “Children of Drum,” premiered at the African Diaspora International Film Festival in November 2017 and screened at RapidLion-The South African International Film Festival in March 2018 among other festivals.
In addition to a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia Journalism School, Tung holds a bachelor’s degree in design and an M.F.A. in television production from Brooklyn College.
