Luis Miguel Echegaray

Luis Miguel Echegaray is a producer and head of Latino/Hispanic audience for Sports Illustrated and Planet Fútbol.

He started his journalism career in 2015, when Newsweek ran The Fall Kings, a short documentary he wrote, directed, and narrated about the most successful high school soccer team in New York City, made up entirely of immigrant children.

Echegaray is a graduate of the Newmark J-School’s 2015 inaugural M.A. in Engagement Journalism class. During his time in the program, he started writing for The Guardian U.S. and became its first full-time Latino journalist, helping the organization grow and develop a stronger relationship with the U.S.-Hispanic community.

He also worked in production for VICE and its HBO programming and has written and created content for Newsweek, Univision, and Remezcla.

Born in England from Peruvian parents, Echegaray moved to the U.S. in 2003 to attend acting school. In a span of 13 years, he was a professional actor and writer living in London, Los Angeles, and New York City, having performed in theater, film, and television.
