Marco Avilés is a Peruvian writer and editor based in Maine. He was editor-in-chief at Etiqueta Negra Magazine, a legendary narrative journalism publication in the Spanish language, and founder of the experimental publishing house Cometa.
He is the author of three non-fiction books, two of them on the subject of racism and classism in his native country. His latest book, “De dónde venimos los cholos” (Where We Cholos Come From), was a New York Times en Español book of the year in 2016.
He works as a consultant on topics of diversity and racism, and is writing a memoir about his experience as an immigrant in the United States.
