Melissa DiPento is an educational program coordinator at the Newmark J-School, where she works directly with the Engagement Journalism M.A. program. In this role, she works with students, alumni, and program faculty and convenes the community of engagement journalists and academics through events, content, social media, and more.
Prior to working at the Newmark J-School, she served as a faculty member in the Journalism and Media Studies Department at CUNY’s Brooklyn College. There, she taught engagement and entrepreneurial journalism, along with video, social media, and more. She has taught courses at The School of The New York Times, Arizona State University, Rutgers University, Temple University, and others for nearly a decade.
At the beginning of her career, Melissa worked at various daily and weekly news organizations in the Philadelphia area as a reporter and editor.
Melissa graduated from Temple University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She is a 2017 graduate of the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism and has a master’s degree in Engagement Journalism (formerly Social Journalism).
