Mike Schmidt is an Emmy-winning producer and currently the director of video features and design at The New York Times where he leads a team of video journalists, producers, editors, and animators in the newsroom.
He initially came to The Times to launch and lead a new effort on Snapchat Discover where he built a cross functional team, developed a data driven content strategy to appeal to new young readers, and published a daily special multimedia edition on the Snap platform.
Mike was the editorial director at CNN’s branded content studio, Courageous, where he created custom branded video and interactive content with advertising partners. At Mashable, he was the editorial video lead and built a 25-person team to create dozens of new shows and series that grew viewership exponentially. At National Geographic magazine, he was director for vision, strategy and management of the video team for iPad and web. Before that he was an associate creative director for the prescient but ill-fated iPad-only news publication, The Daily.
When he is not high-fiving members of the team while seeking digital enlightenment through collaborative mayhem, Mike can be found strolling with his rescue dog in Brooklyn.
