Pamela Drayton was appointed director of public safety at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism in October 2015, making her the first female public safety director in all of CUNY. She was assigned to the J-School as assistant director of public safety in 2009.
She began her CUNY career at the New York College of Technology in 1997 as a campus security officer Level I, then rose to Level II two years later. One of her notable accomplishments was managing the Incident Command Post at New York Tech during the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
In November 2001, she was promoted to Specialist I at the University Office of Public Safety. There she helped establish the University Public Safety Academy, where she taught and became the administrator as a Specialist Level II.
While serving at the J-School, she completed a Bachelor’s in Security Management at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She is now pursuing a Master’s in Criminal Justice.
