We had a predictably strong finish to very productive semester. Let’s get right to it:
- Damiano Beltrami scored a Gray Lady trifecta with a dynamite story and audio slideshow that first appeared on The Local. The Times also touted the piece on its City Room blog, and ran the print version in the Metro Section.
- Speaking of The Local, Geneva Sands-Sadowitz captured the neighborhood buzz with this fun story and video.
- Kristen Joy Watts and Nick Loomis helped put together this New York Times audio slideshow featuring photos of Harlem. The duo has been hard at work on Lens, The Times’ new photoblog.
- Amber Benham’s fish tale about the naming of Sheepshead Bay was featured on Brooklyn Based.
- Emily Feldman and Damiano’s story and slideshow about how Haitian immigrants are having a harder time these days coming up with money to wire back home made The Huffington Post.
- Sergey Kadinsky contributed to this Daily News story about the four alleged Bronx terror plotters.
Our News Service, meanwhile, was hopping:
- Aisha Al-Muslim and Jeanmarie Evelly combined forces on a video report about the pedicab business. Their story packaged nicely with this article by Mary Stachrya, which, as previously noted, made the Daily News.
- Aisha also put together a video piece about efforts to reinvigorate La Marqueta in East Harlem.
- Igor Kossov reported on how budget cuts are threatening after-school arts programs.
- Sophia Tewa offered a video piece on cuts facing education programs at the Bronx Zoo.
In our alumni corner, Emily Mayer generated this video about a roof gardener for NYPost.com.
To answer a frequently asked question: yes, the News Service is open for the summer. Have a great holiday, and best of luck in what are going to be some great internship experiences.
So congrats to all – and keep those stories coming.
